Best Resume and Job Search Tools for OPT and H-1B Students (2026)

The AI resume and job search tools that help F-1 OPT, STEM OPT and H-1B job seekers: what each one does, what it costs, and what it does not do. Checked October 2026.

Short answer

No single tool does everything. For a resume written for each job and applications filled out for you, with your sponsorship answer set once, use Careerfornia. To find jobs at companies that sponsor H-1B, use Jobright's sponsorship filter or public H-1B employer data. For free autofill on many job sites, use Simplify. To check a resume you wrote yourself against a job description, use Jobscan. Always answer the sponsorship question truthfully.

Key points
  • International students need three things that most resume tools ignore: the sponsorship question, jobs at companies that sponsor, and speed before the OPT unemployment days run out.
  • Careerfornia writes a resume for each job and auto-applies on company career sites, with your sponsorship answer set once.
  • Jobright is known for its H-1B sponsorship filter. Simplify has a free autofill extension used by about 600,000 people.
  • Jobscan compares a resume with a job description. It does not rewrite the resume for you.
  • Post-completion OPT allows 90 days of unemployment in total, and a STEM OPT extension adds 60 days. Speed matters.

International students search for jobs under rules that US citizens do not have. Post-completion OPT allows only 90 days of unemployment. Almost every application asks the sponsorship question, in different words each time. And many employers do not sponsor at all. This guide lists the tools that help with those problems, and says what each one does not do.

Why international students need different tools

Three problems make the search harder.

  1. The clock. DHS allows 90 days of unemployment on post-completion OPT, and a STEM OPT extension adds 60 days. Every slow application uses time you do not have.
  2. The sponsorship question. Forms ask it in many different words, and the answer you give decides whether the company keeps your application. Our guide shows how to answer the sponsorship question and the exact words forms use.
  3. Which companies sponsor. In 9,403 job descriptions that Careerfornia users pasted, 93% say nothing about sponsorship. You usually cannot tell from the job post.

A good tool for an international student saves time on each application, answers the work authorization questions correctly, or finds employers that sponsor.

The tools, one by one

Careerfornia

What it does: It rewrites your full resume (summary, skills and every bullet point) for each job description in about 10 seconds. Its Chrome extension makes a resume from the LinkedIn job you are viewing. With auto-apply, it fills out the application on the company's career site: it creates the site account, enters email codes from your connected Gmail, uploads the resume for that job and stops before Submit.

For international students: You set your work authorization and sponsorship answers once, and auto-apply puts them in each form, whatever words the form uses. Many of our users are on F-1 OPT, STEM OPT or H-1B.

Price: $30 each month or $300 each year, after a 3-day free trial. There is no free plan.

What it does not do: It does not find jobs or filter by sponsorship. It does not support LinkedIn Easy Apply. The AI can add a skill that is not in your profile, so read each resume before you send it.

Jobright

What it does: Jobright is an AI job search tool with job matching and an autofill extension. TechCrunch reported that it lets users filter for companies that sponsor H-1B, and that many of its early users were foreign workers.

For international students: The sponsorship filter is its main strength for this audience.

Check before you pay: Read recent reviews about the resume text and about billing. We could not confirm its current prices.

Simplify

What it does: Simplify autofills job applications with a free Chrome extension. The Chrome Web Store showed about 600,000 users and a 4.8 rating in October 2026. It is popular with students and new graduates in software.

For international students: It saves time on forms. It does not write a resume for each job.

Jobscan

What it does: Jobscan's main tool is a scanner. It compares your resume with a job listing and gives a match rate. Its pricing page listed 5 free scans each month and $49.95 each month on October 12, 2026.

For international students: Useful if you write each resume yourself and want a check. It does not rewrite the resume or fill out applications.

Teal

What it does: Teal is a job search workspace with a resume builder, a job tracker and a Chrome extension. Its pricing page listed $13 each week or $29 each 30 days on October 12, 2026.

For international students: Good for tracking many applications. Tailoring is by suggestions that you accept one at a time.

Free help that every international student should use

  • Your school's international student office (DSO). For every immigration question, including how to answer the sponsorship question in your case.
  • Your school's career center. Many career centers give free resume reviews and access to job boards.
  • Public H-1B employer data. It shows which employers filed H-1B petitions in past years. A past filing does not mean that a company will sponsor you now.

How to choose

Start with the step that takes you the most time. If writing a resume for each job is slow, use a tool that rewrites it. If filling out forms is slow, use autofill or auto-apply. If you apply to companies that never sponsor, use a sponsorship filter first. Many students use two tools: one to find sponsoring employers, and one to apply fast.

Whatever you use, read every resume and every form before it is sent, and answer the sponsorship question truthfully.

Questions and answers

What is the best resume builder for international students on OPT?

Pick by what you need most. Careerfornia writes a resume for each job and fills out applications with your sponsorship answer set once. Jobright helps you find companies that sponsor H-1B. Simplify autofills applications for free. Jobscan scores a resume against one job description.

Should an OPT student say yes to the sponsorship question?

University international student offices say that most F-1 OPT students answer yes to 'Will you now or in the future require sponsorship?', because OPT ends and later work needs an employer petition. Answer truthfully for your own case and ask your DSO if you are not sure.

Can a resume tool find jobs that sponsor H-1B?

Some can. Jobright filters jobs by H-1B sponsorship history. You can also check public data on the employers that filed H-1B petitions. Most resume builders, including Careerfornia, do not search for jobs.

Do I need to put my visa status on my resume?

Usually not. Most US resumes leave it out, and the application form asks about work authorization and sponsorship. See our guide on resumes for international students.
